I just noticed for $5 bucks tumblr will promote your blog icon along with 24 others in a 200px box. This is on top of last week’s new revenue scheme of selling pretty blog templates for $9/mo.
Oh, tumblr…
Look tumblr I love ya, and I 110% feel the pressure you’re under to generate revenue and…
I’m not necessarily endorsing Ted’s view here, but I think he does have a point.
I had assumed this was an April Fools joke. It just feels too over the top not to be.
I thought it was a joke too. So I entered a test (fake) credit card number and got the response “Sorry, your bank is not authorizing this purchase. Please make sure you entered your information correctly.” So I’m led to believe this is real.
Either way, if your business model is questioned as an April Fool’s joke then I’d say you still have some work to do. And if it is a joke, I question the ethics of a company requiring a valid CC to be submitted as part of that joke.

Come on. You’re critiquing an April Fools gimmick. And we’re not starting with tried-and-true models when we have time and room to experiment with innovative ones.

I paid Tumblr my first $5 to be on the grid for 10 minutes. Three new teenage followers, that’s it. I’d pay a yearly subscription for advances features and proper stats.
